Few times ago Diono (Sunshine Kids ) has launched a new generation of convertible seats based on the previous Radian line. The Radian R-series: Radian R100, R120, and RXT, all have basically the same shell design but features distinguish them from each other. In this review we will discuss about the Radian RXT, which designed for security and longevity with premium materials and thoughtful safety features like a steel frame, aluminum reinforced side walls, energy absorbing EPS foam, adjustable head support and a five-point harness.

The Radian RXT is a highly versatile car seat that could be the only seat you’ll ever need. It comfortably seats rear-facing children from 2.2 – 20 kg, forward-facing children from 9 – 36 kg in 5-point harness, then converts to a booster for children up to 54.4 kg. With its adjustable features, this seat can safely accommodate children from birth all the way up to 120 pounds and 57 inches tall.

The Radian RXT same like Radian R100 or R200, all are NCAP crash tested, the industry benchmark for verifying child seat performance in severe accident conditions, and the only car seat rated for LATCH use with a child up to 36.2 kg (80 lbs). The RadianRXT sits low on a vehicle seat for easy child boarding, features memory foam padding and infant support pillows. Expandable sides and a longer seat bottom provide extra room and comfort for your growing child. Diono’s SuperLATCH system allows LATCH use up to the full weight capacity of the car seat. The SuperLATCH connectors are successfully crash tested at 45 pounds rear-facing and 80 pounds forward-facing. In vehicles with LATCH anchors SuperLATCH is a safe, convenient way to install the RadianRXT and provides a proper installation every time. Rubber bottom grips ensure the seat won’t slide after installation and also protect your car’s upholstery.

This Diono RXT model can sit three across in most vehicles. Due it does not have a pedestal the seat sits relatively low, making child boarding easy. It also features a folding design, so storing or transporting the seat is easy. The car seat is FAA approved for use on airplanes. The machine washable cover and cup holder compatibility (up to four, one included) make this car seat even more convenient.

  • Weight Limits: The Radians currently have the highest rf weight limit on the U.S. market, so it will accommodate those extended rear-facers or very large children to a safe age for ff. The high ff weight limit means a wider range of kids will fit the seat for a long time.
  • 3 Crotch Strap Positions: Having a choice of crotch strap positions makes the harness more comfortable for bigger kids.
  • 5 Harness Slot Positions: Allows for a more closely fitting harness on the child. High top harness slots mean the seat can be used harnessed for the tallest child.
  • Low and narrow footprint means it’s more likely to fit in tight spots.
  • Padded Cover: A thickly padded cover, plus the memory foam in the bum area, makes for a comfy seat.
  • Instruction Manual: If user don’t understand what they’re reading? scan the code and watch a video.

  • Relatively expensive and heavy
  • Harness Adjuster: It’s tug-tug-tug can be frustrating for some used to a smooth adjuster on an infant seat.
  • Installation: Often more difficult depending on the vehicle, with a higher learning curve due to the various features.
  • Sliding head rest: Having to adjust the head rest up every time my dd sat in the seat was a pain.
  • Snug fit of the shoulder belt in booster mode is poor; shoulder belt can get caught leaving slack.

Overall, this Diono Radian RXT is a solid convertible seat with great rear-facing features. Its high height and weight limits accommodate big kids both rear- and forward-facing, yet it takes up less space than many of its competitors. For narrow backseats or 3-across situations, you simply can’t beat the width of the RXT. Features like rear-facing tethering, thick padding, and solid construction make the Radian RXT a solid purchase.
